Laws That Produce and Laws That Rob

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. (Proverbs 6:10-11)
Scripture describes prosperity and poverty as operating under consistent principles. They are not random financial outcomes that happen to families or groups of people. Proverbs 6 points directly to one of the clearest results of following the principles in the Word. Repeated small choices toward laziness accumulate into poverty just as surely as an armed robber overtakes a traveler who is not paying attention.
To be clear, this proverb is not talking about refusing to rest, which Scripture elsewhere honors and even commands. It describes a pattern of laziness and excuses. A little slumber, repeated consistently, can become a lifestyle of avoiding hard work. The poverty referred to here is not something that happens in a single dramatic event. It comes gradually and then suddenly, the way an armed man overtakes someone who never saw him coming.
God's Word consistently connects diligence with receiving Heaven’s provision and slothfulness with a lack of it. That is how God designed stewardship to function. Believers must understand that consistent, diligent effort applied to what God has called you to do is one way His provision becomes visible in daily life.
Practical Application
Identify one area where small, repeated laziness has quietly accumulated consequences in your life. Make a choice about what you will do to replace those habits this week with one deliberate act of diligence in that same area.
