Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)
What a powerful truth! Jesus never changes. He is always the same, yesterday, today, and forever. We observe numerous changes and shifts in our world politically, economically, and socially. Uncertainty and instability have become expectations for all of us. We can’t trust the information we receive, the news we hear, or the government's promises because they constantly alter their minds, facts, or rules.
Ideas, morals, and societal standards continually evolve, leading people to pursue new philosophies, opinions, and temporary solutions, only to encounter disappointment. Nonetheless, this truth in Hebrews 13 offers us immense reassurance and confidence. Jesus remains consistently faithful, eternally reliable, and perfectly trustworthy. His character, teachings, promises, and love have never changed, and they never will change.
Understanding this gives us confidence in our faith. It reassures us that the Jesus who healed the sick, forgave sinners, showed compassion, and displayed unmatched wisdom two thousand years ago is the same Jesus we worship, serve, and rely on today. If He healed the sick then, He heals the sick now. If He calmed storms then, He calms storms now.
Also, if He said it, then it’s still accurate. Everything in our world may eventually change, but the words and ways of Jesus will never change.
The unchanging nature of Jesus allows us to remain firmly rooted in the Word. It encourages us to resist being swayed by temporary trends, worldly opinions, political confusion, or cultural shifts that conflict with what God's Word says.
Practical Application
You can trust Jesus today based on yesterday. Reflect on how God has been faithful to you before. Use that history as fuel for your present confidence. Moreover, if Jesus healed, delivered, forgave, restored, and empowered people, He continues to do so now. Step out in bold faith, knowing He hasn't changed His mind about miracles, mercy, or your mission.
