Is it Faith or Religion?

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Matthew 15:8-9)
Jesus clearly pointed out the problem: the religious people knew how to say the right things, but their hearts were far from God. Religion is humanity's attempt to create followers to reach God by doing what they decide is necessary. It often leads to loud crying, demonstrations, and all sorts of crazy mystical acts that aren't truly ministry.
Praying over items isn't what gets people saved; preaching the name of Christ that does. Having faith in the power of the name of Jesus and declaring it is how we honor Him with our lips and hearts.
When you declare in the name of Jesus, you don't look around to see if it worked; you shouldn't check if the sickness is gone or the devil left. We aren't moved by goosebumps; we are moved by faith, so once you speak it, that settles it.
Empty worship or superficial religious actions produce followers who never really operate in the power they are called to. You don't need rituals or proof; you need to walk by faith, trusting that it will be exactly as God has spoken.
Practical Application
Are you honoring God with your faith, or just your words? Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to move you to take actions that feel uncomfortable to your flesh but are led by the Spirit? Step out, launch out, and be willing to be used.
Isaiah 29:13; Titus 1:14
