I Am the Lord That Healeth Thee

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (Exodus 15:26)

This declaration came directly from God, revealing His name and character to Israel just after their deliverance from Egypt. The Hebrew word translated “healeth” in this verse is rapha, and it is one of the covenant names of God, Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals. This was not a role God stepped into every once in a while. This was part of His revealed identity from the very beginning of Israel's covenant relationship with Him.

God connected this healing promise to obedience, to hearkening diligently to His voice and keeping His commandments. That doesn't mean healing is a prize you earn by behaving perfectly. It means healing is part of the covenant relationship we have with Him.

A covenant relationship has two parties, each promising to do their part. When we obey God’s Word, it opens the door for God to do what only He can do. Healing was never in question; it was there in His character all along. Israel's obedience to God wasn’t about trying to twist His arm to make Him do something good for them. It was about staying aligned with the relationship where that provision was already running freely.

We need to understand that healing isn't some rare favor God hands out on the days He's feeling generous. It's part of who He is. So if healing has always been part of God’s character, then coming to Him and asking for it isn't asking Him to do something out of character. It's asking Him to be the exact same God He's always told us He is.

Practical Application

Declare the name Jehovah-Rapha over your body today, declaring that healing is a direct expression of God’s revealed identity He has shared with us.
