He Teacheth Thee to Profit

Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. (Isaiah 48:17)

In Isaiah 48, God describes Himself in a way that directly connects His identity as Redeemer and Holy One with His desire to teach His people to profit. This understanding is central to how God desires us to see Him. He is not neutral or indifferent to whether His people prosper. He identifies Himself as the One who teaches us how to do so.

This matters because it settles a question many believers quietly wrestle with, namely whether pursuing provision and increase is somehow at odds with being a good Christian. This verse presents God Himself as the teacher of profit, directly linking this role to His role as Redeemer. If God wanted His people to remain in lack as some mark of spiritual depth, this would be a strange way to introduce Himself.

The verse continues by describing God as the One who leads His people in the way they should go. Teaching to profit and leading in the right way are presented together, not as separate concerns. This suggests that following God's leading and walking in provision are meant to work together, not against each other. Whatever profit or increase you are believing for, this verse invites you to look to God Himself as the source of instruction on how to walk into it.

Practical Application

Today, ask God directly to reveal the specific way He wants you to walk in greater provision, trusting Him as the primary source of that guidance. Then do as He directs.

Psalm 32:8; Proverbs 16:3
