And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted beyond measure. (2 Corinthians 12:7)
Paul described having a thorn in the flesh, which was a messenger of Satan that constantly troubled him. It was a demonic force that sought to steal the power of the revelation God gave him. Paul recognized this thorn as a form of affliction sent by Satan to weaken his effectiveness, just as Jesus illustrated in His parable of the sower, where Satan immediately tries to steal the Word through persecution, distractions, or afflictions. Paul was aware of the enemy’s schemes and consistently chose to lean into God rather than rely on his own strength.
Think about your own life. Each time God plants His truth in your heart, be prepared and know that opposition will arise whenever God reveals something to you. The enemy doesn't waste any time—he comes immediately with pressures, distractions, or even discouragement to steal what God has given you. But just as Paul refused to let the enemy rob him of the revelations he received, you also need to stand firm, relying on God's strength. Instead of becoming discouraged or overwhelmed in the face of these attacks, recognize them as signs that God is sowing something amazing into your life.
Stand against Satan’s schemes by actively depending on God's power working within you. Declare God's promises, stay rooted in prayer, and diligently guard the Word in your heart.
Practical Application
This week, stay more vigilant. Don't allow the enemy to steal the Word that has been planted in your heart. Acknowledge that challenges or distractions may arise immediately after receiving God's truth, but you don't need to face them in your own strength.
