And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Matthew 12:32-37)
Jesus concluded this teaching with a strong emphasis: words matter. Idle words carry weight, and speech reveals the heart. Whatever fills the heart eventually comes out of the mouth. Words activate spiritual forces—angels respond to faith-filled words, while darkness responds to fear-filled words. Your confession shapes your outcome.
What happens in your life will either be chaos or miraculous moments, depending on the words you speak. You must train yourself to speak correctly. Jesus taught in Matthew 12 that whatever fills your heart will come out of your mouth. How do you fill your heart? It is through your ear gate (what you hear) and your mouth gate (what you speak). That’s why you never want to be involved in gossip. When people start saying, "Well, we will pray for so-and-so, because…," you can stop it there because you can pray in the Holy Ghost over the person and the matter. You do not need to hear the juicy details.
The words you speak about others can boomerang back to you. Jesus said you will be judged the same way you judge others. If you judge without full information, you will be judged the same way.
Practical Application
You must guard your mouth by protecting what your heart holds. When pressure arises, what’s inside will come out. That’s why it’s essential to confess the Word over yourself every day.
