There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

You cannot pray for temptations to be taken away from you. Temptations are a part of life in this world, and you cannot isolate yourself to an extent that no temptations ever come. As Paul wrote, the temptations you have faced are not exclusive to your experience; they are common to all humanity. Whatever you are currently experiencing, others have faced as well. You are not alone.

However, the similarity of our trials is not the comfort delivered in this verse. The three most powerful words in this verse are God is faithful. That means God is trustworthy. You can count on Him to help you every time, but without Him, you will be trapped alone and without direction.

He not only knows how to escape whatever temptation you find yourself in, He makes one. What a powerful revelation! If there had been no way of escape previously, God will create one. Whether we find this way of escape depends on our willingness to seek and follow His leading and His Word.

Practical Application

No matter the problem or the temptation that comes, you can be confident that God has made a way for you to escape. It is up to us to seek and trust in His guidance. So, when you feel tempted or trapped, pray. Acknowledge His presence and listen to what He will tell you. There is always a way of escape.

2 Peter 2:9; 1 Corinthians 1:9
