God Cannot Lie

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.  (Titus 1:1-2)

Paul made a simple yet foundational doctrinal statement in this letter to Titus. God cannot lie. That is not merely a general description of His character; it is a statement about the reliability of everything He has ever said. If God is incapable of lying, then every promise recorded in Scripture carries the full weight of absolute truth, regardless of how it feels in the moment or how circumstances currently appear.

This has direct implications for how you approach anything God has said about your life. You can disagree with a promise, doubt it, or struggle to see how it could possibly come true, but none of that changes whether it is true. If God said it, it is a fact, not merely a hopeful sentiment. Facts do not depend on your feelings to remain factual.

That covers every promise God has made to you, whether it is your healing, a need for provision, or a relationship you're praying will be restored. It doesn't matter that you can't see it finished yet. If God has promised it, then it’s already true, because the One who said it can't lie. You may still be waiting for it to show up in your life, but the truth of it was settled the moment He spoke. That's what it means to stand on a promise from God. You're not standing on hope that it might happen. You're standing on solid ground before you ever see it.

Practical Application

Think of one promise from God you've quietly been treating like it’s more of a maybe. Today, remind yourself that what God promises is never a maybe. God cannot lie, so it's already true, no matter what it looks like right now.

Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 6:17
