And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18)
Jesus did not say signs might follow pastors, preachers, prophets, or evangelists. He said signs follow believers. That changes everything. This is not about a special class of Christians who live in the supernatural while everyone else watches. This is about the normal believer's life in the new-covenant reality. We are called to live a life that proves God’s Word is real and personal.
Immediately after casting out devils, Jesus lists new tongues as a sign that follows those who believe in God. That word "new" points to fresh — not stale, not yesterday’s leftovers. Fresh tongues - something fresh is powerful, it’s ready, it’s exciting.
Jesus taught that each day brings its own trouble: new evil, fresh pressure, and new challenges. But Heaven has not left you defenseless. God also gives new tongues to everyone who will use them. That means you don’t have to face today with yesterday’s strength.Praying in tongues is a supernatural tool—a way to speak God’s will into the world without missing it. It is part of spiritual warfare because when you pray the will of God, you are not just talking; you are releasing power. Your mouth is directly connected to your authority. You cannot experience victory if your mouth keeps agreeing with defeat.
Praying in tongues helps retrain your mouth to follow your spirit, not your flesh. When you pray in tongues, you also pray past your emotions. Sometimes your feelings are loud, but tongues bypass the noise of your soul. They let your spirit pray even when your mind is tired.God has a fresh supply for today’s fight. New tongues are not weird; they are wisdom—God’s provision for believers who refuse to live powerless.
Practical Application
When you face a difficult situation and feel pressure in your body and mind, take a moment to pray in tongues, even if only for five minutes. You are telling your soul that you won’t give in to the pressure; instead, you respond by speaking the perfect will of God over that area.
