Covenant Connection

Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. (Philippians 4:15-17)
Paul didn’t say that the Philippian church was the only one that gave, but rather it was the only one that partnered. Partnership is more than just a financial blessing. It’s a connection of covenant in the mission of a ministry or church that will produce supernatural fruit.
The Philippians didn’t give just once; they gave “once and again,” meaning that whenever there was a need, they found a way to sow a seed. This faithful consistency in their support kept Paul’s mission alive in Thessalonica.
Paul was clear that he never required, forced, or even sought their giving. However, he also didn’t refuse it because he understood that they were doing something that brought Heaven’s authority and power into their situation. He said it would produce karpos (Greek) or spiritual fruit that grows and yields harvests in lives, ministries, and the givers’ own needs and desires. Also, when Paul said that this generosity would abound to their “account,” he used the Greek word “logos.” When we hear that, we may think about an account balance, but it’s more than that. It means “words.” Paul was stating that because they weren’t just saying something but they were acting on it, their words would have fruit and evidence of God’s goodness.
Partnership is more than just an offering; it’s a spiritual investment aimed at spiritual rewards. These rewards are not only financial ones, but more importantly, they are to see the lost saved, lives changed, people healed and set free. That’s what partnership does.
Practical Application
This week, become a committed, intentional supporter of ministries and missions. Ask the Holy Spirit how you can support what God is doing worldwide. Your partnership will sow seeds that echo in eternity.
