Confess it, Meditate it, Live it

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:8)

Success isn’t a mystery; it’s a product of meditation. God told Joshua that victory wouldn’t begin on the battlefield; it would start in his meditation. God said, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth.” In other words, don’t stop speaking the Word! You’re not called just to read the Bible; God said you must keep it in your mouth.

What is in your mouth when trouble comes? The same mouth that complains can also choose to create with faith. The same tongue that can tear down others can be used to build them up by faith. However, confession is only powerful when combined with meditation. Don’t confuse Biblical meditation with Eastern meditation. Eastern meditation focuses on emptying your mind of negative thoughts and concepts, while the Bible teaches that God's version of meditation fills your mind with truth. The more you immerse yourself in the Word, the more doubt, fear, and anger dissipate.

However, God emphasized that it wasn’t enough to think and speak. God also told Joshua he needed to act on the Word. Revelation without application leads to spiritual stagnation. In contrast, revelation with purpose, power, and forward momentum brings success in any endeavor God places you in. There is a promise connected to this process, as God told Joshua that doing this will make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Did you notice what God said there? Your boss doesn’t make your way prosperous; the economy doesn’t make your way prosperous. You make your way prosperous by your discipline, meditating, confessing, and living the Word of God. Prosperity isn’t about chasing after trends or strategies; it’s found in staying in the Word and allowing it to shape your thoughts, words, and life.

Practical Application

What Scripture are you currently confessing over your life? If you have one that you have used for a long time, find a new verse and make it fresh. God’s Word has something to say about every situation in your life.

Psalm 19:14; Deuteronomy 6:6
