Choose Life or Choose Death

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. (Deuteronomy 30:19)

God made it clear: there is a choice before you—life and death, blessing and curse. This shows how God operates. He always provides guidance and instructions, but He leaves the decision up to us. You can choose life, so your soul and your descendants live, or you can choose death. Ultimately, God puts that decision in your hands.

You choose life when you align with the Word, even when it's inconvenient. You choose life when you forgive instead of holding onto bitterness. You choose life when you tithe instead of clinging to fear. You choose life when you resist temptation instead of justifying it.

I remember getting up on a Sunday morning in winter and looking outside. Everything was covered in snow. My truck was buried. It was cold. Do you know what I did? I grabbed a broom and dug my truck out. I put on a hat, coat, and boots because what was happening outside wasn’t going to stop me from going to church. I made sure I was there to give God praise and glory because I am alive to do something about the snow. God didn’t force me to go to church. He didn’t throw me outside with the truck. He gave me the choice to follow Him and choose life, or follow my flesh and choose death.

Life and death are set before you each day. God instructs you on which one to select. Choose life. Choose obedience. Choose the Word. Do it even when your body desires something different.

Practical Application

Decide to follow God and obey. If you notice that part of your life isn't aligning with the Word of God, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your choices to you. Have you been choosing what is convenient instead of what God asks of you? If so, repent and choose life.

Deuteronomy 30:1; Proverbs 8:36
