Because You Obeyed

 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son. That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (Genesis 22:16-18)

God did not merely acknowledge what Abraham had done; He doubled down on the promise. God said, "Because you obeyed Me even when you could not see how it was going to work.” Because Abraham held nothing back, not even the thing that mattered most, the floodgates of everything God had promised were opened. Look at what God declared in that moment: blessing upon blessing, multiplication beyond counting, as the stars of the sky and as the sand of the seashore, and possession of the gate of his enemies. And then, something that could not have seemed possible from Abraham's vantage point, all the nations of the earth would be blessed because of one act of obedience from one man who believed God.

There may be someone reading this whose head cannot see how you are going to get from where you are to where God said you will be. Your mind does not understand it. The people around you may not believe it. But God has already said it and has planned it to happen. You do not have to see the whole picture. You have to do what Abraham did: Obey the Word you do have, step by step, while trusting that God is faithful. "Because you obeyed."

That phrase unlocked heaven over Abraham's life. When you get to the end of your journey and look back, you want to see the same thing—that God was faithful because you kept showing up and following Him, even when you didn’t fully understand because you kept putting the Word in your heart and you kept stepping out when God said, "step.” That is the life God rewards. It is not the life of perfection, but the life of persistent, faith-fueled obedience.

Practical Application

Thank God for the specific times in your life when you obeyed Him, and He came through. Remind yourself of those moments. Let them build your faith for what He is asking you to trust Him for right now.
