Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (Matthew 24:35)
Jesus said that everything on earth shall pass away. That includes the buildings, structures, and monuments which took hundreds of years to build. However, the Word of God will never pass away. If we are going to live by faith, we need to hear the Word (get to church, listen to solid teaching, and avail ourselves of it). We also must receive the Word (decide to accept it even if it feels uncomfortable) and believe it (put our faith in what the Word says as true and accurate). Finally, we must speak the Word (out loud with our mouths declaring it in power) and find a way to act on the Word (in tangible ways). Many Christians act on the Word only when they want something, ignoring what God’s Word says believers should do.
God asks five things of everyone who lives their faith.
You are required to witness to others and bring them to church. We are commissioned to share the Gospel with others and bring them into the fellowship of believers (Mark 16:15). Believers need to understand that this isn’t a suggestion but a call from God.
We are required to aid the poor. The Bible repeatedly emphasizes that God desires believers to live prosperous lives so that God can use us to help the less fortunate, demonstrate God's love through practical acts of kindness, and support what God is building all over the world (Galatians 2:10).
We must assist other believers - we need to look for ways to support one another and help in whatever God has placed upon the hearts of our brothers and sisters (Galatians 6:2).
We must participate in the ministry of help—to provide service to our church and support its mission and activities (1 Corinthians 12:28).
We are required to support God’s Kingdom financially - by faithfully giving tithes and offerings, we contribute to advancing God's kingdom on earth. (Malachi 3:10)
Practical Application
Look at that list of 5 things. Are you doing them all? Did one of them jump out to you as something you may be able to do better or aren’t doing at all? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in ways that can make you more involved in what God is doing.
