Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Â
People love quoting the first part of this verse: "God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." They display it on wall plaques, preach it at conferences, and sew it into throw pillows. And it is true. God is fully capable of doing exceeding, abundantly, above all that we ask or think. However, if you stop reading there, you miss the most crucial part of the verse: "According to the power that works in us." That phrase means by means of or by the measure of. In other words, how much God can do exceeding abundantly in your life depends directly on the power working inside you. The verse doesn’t say God does it independently while you sit back and wait. It says He does it according to, or proportionate to, what is active and working within you. This isn’t about earning anything. The power is already present. The Holy Ghost is already inside you. But the question is whether that power is active and functioning, or dormant, untapped, and unused because faith has not been applied.
God wants to do exceeding, abundantly, above anything you have asked or imagined. But He will do it through the power working inside you. You are the delivery system. You are the vessel. The more you activate what’s inside through faith and the Word, the more you become the channel through which God accomplishes what He’s always been ready to do.
Practical Application
Honestly ask yourself: Is the power inside me active or dormant? Then do whatever it takes to awaken it. Pray in the Spirit. Speak the Word. Feed your faith. Get that power moving and see what God does through you.
