Vision for Ventures
And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavored to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. (Acts 16:8-10)
Have you ever been unsure what direction to take? God will direct you when you know how to listen. He speaks to His children in many ways.
As an earthly father, when I teach lessons to my children or grandchildren, I do so in several different ways. Sometimes I give straightforward instruction; sometimes, I tell them a story from my own life experiences, and sometimes I tell them through narratives and illustrations that impart the Word in a way they can understand it.
God, our amazing Heavenly Father, is the same way. He will speak to you in many ways so you can receive what you need.
In Acts 16, Paul was trying to figure out what the next step of his missionary journey was supposed to be. As he purposed to go one way, the Holy Spirit directly told him, "No." Then as he planned another direction, the Holy Spirit again said, "No." Hearing "No" can be very frustrating to a person who likes to strategize. Paul was trying to do right, but a wise man of God submits even his best laid out plan to the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit says, "No," don't ignore him and go anyway; it will inevitably end in disaster.
Paul went to sleep, not knowing what the next step should be, and God told him in a vision to head to Macedonia. The Lord gave Paul a vision for his next venture.
Practical Application – God still speaks in visions and dreams to people who are willing to listen and be directed by the Holy Spirit.
