Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. (Colossians 1:15)
Colossians 1:15 speaks of the personhood of Jesus. Paul explained that Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Jesus is the similitude of God Himself. He is no less powerful and has no less authority than any of the characters of the Godhead.
Understanding this then paints the picture of who you and I are as redeemed heirs of His inheritance.
See, Paul went on to write that Jesus was the firstborn. Why is that important? Because He wasn’t the only born. If there is a firstborn, there is a second born, a third born, and so on.
I’m not sure what born I am, but I know that I'm included in that group myself. Jesus is our elder brother, and we have been reborn and recreated to be just like Him.
The only difference right now between us as brothers is that Jesus has a glorified body, and for now, we are still walking this earth with earth-suits called flesh.
One day you will get a glorified body as well. When we get to heaven, we will be done with these flesh suits and celebrate with our big brother in bodies like His.
Practical Application – Understanding that you are like Jesus, read some Scriptures today about miracles that Jesus performed while He was on the earth and say, “That’s for me too.” Remember that Jesus was the firstborn, but you are in that line of reborn individuals too.
