The Choice Is Yours

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17)

From the beginning, God’s plan was for man to prosper in every way. He created rivers that held precious stones and trees that had every type of delicious fruit for man to enjoy. Adam was given access to the entire planet and given the authority to rule. However, man was also given a choice.

God planted numerous trees in the Garden of Eden for Adam to enjoy. Only one was off-limits. God put this forbidden tree in the middle of the Garden, not to tempt man, but to give him the right to choose to follow God.

God does not grab you, drag you down the aisle, slam you in front of the altar and say, “Now, I’m going to make you get saved!” God is a gentleman. He gives us the right to choose to follow Him and have the benefits of a life lived within His design, or to refuse Him and deal with the consequences of a life away from God’s influence.

When I married Deborah, she had the choice to marry 3 billion other men. I did not force her into marriage. There would be no love there. The only way that I knew she loved me and that I loved her in return is that we both decided to choose each other.

God’s will is for you to prosper as your soul prospers. However, He is not going to force His will on you. He has given you a choice to follow His will or to do your own. The option is yours.

Practical Application – You will have choices this week to go the easy route or to follow God’s way. How you react to co-workers, how you connect with family, and how you conduct yourself around friends will determine whether you choose God’s way or your own.
