Teaching and Preaching

Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. (Acts 15:35)

Teaching and preaching are both necessary for Christians to fulfill the assignment God has given them.

Christians should be involved in churches that teach as Jesus did. He taught, He preached, and He healed.

Teaching establishes the roots for what you believe. It creates an understanding of what God's Word says, and it enables people to apply God’s Word and do it effectively.

Christians who lack teaching are often excited but ineffective, accomplishing nothing. The majority of pulpit time in local churches should be teaching.

Preaching differs from teaching. It encourages and inspires you to continue doing what you have been taught. Unfortunately, many churches only preach the Word. They create frustrated Christians who get emotionally energized, but they don’t know how to produce anything with their faith. Christians who are quickly excited with no root are easy targets for the devil.

Without teaching, people cannot accomplish anything for God. On the other hand, people become weary and unmotivated to do great exploits for God without preaching.

Mature believers should value both teaching and preaching. Of course, people have preferences. Some are fonder of either teaching or preaching, but it's essential to understand the purpose for both. You will profit the most when you can receive what the Holy Spirit has for you through either form of communication from God’s Word.

Practical Application – What was the last message that encouraged you to live your faith? Pull out your notes from that service, remind yourself what God had spoken to you, and be encouraged again.
