Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (Romans 1:21-25)
Pride destroys everything God wants to bless.
Paul described the plight of prideful people in the first chapter of Romans as people who knew about God but would not give Him honor or thanks. Instead, they attributed every great thing that happened in their lives to their ability.
They claim wisdom, but any wisdom that is separated from God is foolishness.
Paul warned against pride in his letters to his protégé, Timothy, and the Apostle John mentioned it in his Epistles as well. They both concur that in the last days, prideful attitudes will increase even more.
Pride opens the door to the enemy. He loves to bring chaos and destruction using our egos. Pride can destroy families, businesses, churches, and even nations. Do not allow the enemy to have a foothold. Destroy pride by honoring and thanking God for everything in your life.
Practical Application – A quick way to kill pride is to be thankful for what God has provided. Acknowledge that without God, you’d be lost, foolish, and empty. Thank Him for saving you, teaching you, and providing for you!
