Name Above All Names
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name. (Philippians 2:9)
Because Jesus was willing to humble Himself and give His life as the sacrifice for many, God bestowed upon Him one of the highest honors of all eternity.
Paul wrote that God highly exalted Him. The phrase highly exalted in Greek is Huperupsoo. It means to elevate above all others and raise to the highest position. God, the Father, raised Jesus to the most elevated position possible. He now sits at the right hand of the throne of God. What an honor!
God did not merely elevate His position, but also His authority. Paul went on to explain that God gave Him a name which is above every name. The word name in Greek is onoma and doesn’t just refer to a given name from a parent. It includes a title and character with authority and a cause.
In Mark 16:17, Jesus explains that in His name or with his authority, character, and cause, believers would cast out devils, be protected from evil, and heal the sick. You and I have been granted the authority to use the onoma (or authority) of Jesus in our everyday lives.
The name of Jesus is greater than the name of any sickness or disease.
The name of Jesus is higher than any natural disaster.
The name of Jesus is stronger than any problem that you currently face.
You have been given authority to use the name that is above every name. Don’t squander the opportunity - declare the name of Jesus.
Practical Application – Where do you need to use the name and authority of Jesus? Exercise your authority by speaking the name of Jesus over your situation, your health, your family, your church, and anything in your life that need to line up with God’s Word.
