Greater in You
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
God deals with humanity differently now than He did in the Old Testament. We have what the Old Testament saints hungered for: The Holy Ghost living within. There were times in the Old Testament that individuals would have the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them for a season or a moment, but He did live in them and guide them daily.
John, writing to New Testament believers, explained that we have overcoming power because the Holy Spirit in us is greater than anything in the world. That overcoming power means no matter what the world throws at us, God within us gives us the wisdom, supernatural strength, and ability to defeat any mountain, issue, or problem.
The rules are different now than they were before Jesus came. Don’t try to apply everything from the Old Testament to the New Testament church.
The only commands we are expected to maintain from the Old Testament are those which are also in the New Testament. Tithing, for example, was a tenant of the faith before Jesus came, while He ministered on earth, and after His death and resurrection. Therefore, we still tithe.
God continues to direct His people, but He leads His people differently under the New Covenant. He wants to ensure we are doing the right things in the right places so we can be shining examples of His will in health, prosperity, and provision.
As New Testament believers, we should understand the six ways that God directs us. We will look at those over the next few days. Expect God to speak and direct you. God will lead you if you learn how to listen.
Practical Application – Thank God in advance for speaking to you through His Word and His Spirit.
