God Works It

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

Wouldn’t it be strange to taste something delicious and praise the fork for such a great accomplishment? Philippians 2:13 gives us something to think about that is both encouraging and humbling at the same time.

Paul says that it is God who works in us, forming our will to His. The more time you spend in prayer and in the Word, the more latitude you give God to shape and mold your will to be more like His. But God doesn't stop at just forming our will to want to accomplish His plans and purposes. He then gives us the ability to accomplish His will.

God’s will always accomplishes His good pleasure. The phrase good pleasure is the Greek word agates and means beneficial work. It’s something you do that benefits you in every way. It will benefit your work life, and also your family life. It will benefit your health and even your finances.

God’s plan is to get you to a place where you are willing and capable of accomplishing things you never thought were possible. No matter what your past was like, or no matter how your week has been, the good news is that God continues to work with us. The Lord is doing a very beneficial work in you, and He won't stop doing it.

Practical Application – Thank God for the skills, talents, and abilities you have. He put them in your heart and gave you the ability. Give the praise back to Him.

Ecclesiastes 12:14; Nehemiah 2:18
