Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

The world today wants us to accept forms of sexuality and relationships that are contrary to biblical norms. However, as Christians, it's important for us to remember that God's Word is clear on certain issues, and we are called to stand firm on what the Bible defines and describes. One issue that is being pushed upon Christians is the acceptance of homosexuality as normal. However, Leviticus 18:22 says homosexuality is an abomination to God.

It is important for us to note that God's laws and commands are not meant to be oppressive or restrictive; God put limits on behavior to protect His children, not to harm them. Leviticus 18:22 says engaging in homosexual relationships is an abomination because it will harm one's own body. We remember God created us in His image, and He knows what is best for us. God wants us to live the abundant life He created for us on earth. When we engage in activities that go against His design and His Word, we harm ourselves and go against the very purpose for which we were created.

God is not trying to be a cosmic killjoy. He is not attacking any group of people. God wants His children to live holy so they can enjoy the blessings and benefits of following Him.

We are not wise enough to choose to depart from God's design and think that we can still live a blessed life. That is simply delusional.

Practical Application

We must strive to live a life that is pleasing to God, staying true to His Word and design. We need to approach difficult issues such as homosexuality from the truth of God's Word and with compassion. Pray for opportunities to speak change and life into the dark areas of their hearts.

Leviticus 20:13; 1 Kings 14:24
