God Wants to Cram your Mind
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. (Colossians 1:9)
Paul prayed for the churches, as do I. In fact, most of his epistles tell us about the specific prayers that the Holy Spirit led him to pray over the churches. Here, Paul tells us about a particular prayer he had for the faithful church of Colossi.
Paul prayed that the church would be filled with knowledge. The word filled in the Greek is pleroo and describes a net that is entirely crammed full. It’s the idea of a net that was already full, but the contents needed to be pushed and squished to fill it up even more.
Also, the Greek word for knowledge is epignosis, and it means discernment or the complete knowledge of God’s will. God wants your mind to be crammed full of understanding about how God wants things to be done.
But Paul’s prayer didn't end with merely natural understanding and insight. He went on to explain that he wanted the church also to have all wisdom and spiritual understanding. This phrase comes from the Greek word sophia. Sophia means insight with spiritual understanding and spiritual intelligence. Christians should have spiritual insight. They shouldn’t see into spiritual things darkly. The ways of God are no longer hidden to those who believe, but they are hidden from Satan and the world.
You now have access to insight into what and how to accomplish God’s perfect will. When you pray, you will see natural and supernatural solutions to problems that others miss.
Practical Application – Pray this prayer from Colossians 1:9 over yourself as well as for others. Pray that you would be filled with natural knowledge and complete in spiritual insight.
