Five Tools of the Enemy
The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise which are sown o stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. (Mark 4:14-19)
Jesus often told parables or stories to illustrate spiritual truths. All of His teachings are important, but this one was so important that Jesus said if you didn’t get this, then you wouldn’t get any of His teachings. In this most vital parable, Jesus preached about five tools that Satan uses to try and stop the power of the Word from working in your life:
Affliction - This is pressure placed upon you through circumstance. You might call it life’s troubles.
Persecution - This is pressure brought against you through people.
Cares of this world - It is anything that pulls you away from hearing or focusing on God.
The deceitfulness of riches – Riches are not evil, but allowing them to control you is.
Lust of other things - Whatever you need or want more than God.
All five of the devil’s tools will have opportunities to enter your life; if you allow them in, they will choke the Word. Choking happens when something was once alive and productive is strangled until there is no life remaining. Don’t allow the enemy to steal the power of God in your life.
Practical Application – Don’t allow Satan to choke the Word that is on the inside of you.
