Faith and Fear

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Romans 4:20-21)

When Paul wrote Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, he meant the father of faith did not withdraw from God’s promise.
Christians often start out in faith, but they draw back because they encounter problems, issues, and pressures. They look at circumstances; they hear the announcer on television say “The economy is going under. Inflation is 8.7%,” etc., etc., etc.
The Bible tells us faith cometh by hearing, and that is true for all kinds of faith. If you hear God’s Word, you develop faith in God. If you hear the world’s word, you develop fear, which is perverted faith.
Faith and fear are like mirror images; one is good, and one is evil. They both believe in something that hasn’t yet manifested. Faith believes God’s promises. Fear believes the devil’s lies.
Romans 4:20-21 tells us Abraham grew strong in faith as he gave glory to God. Every day, Abraham got up and praised God that His promise was coming to pass. He said, “Glory to God! I am Abraham, the father of multitudes.” His wife got in agreement and when she said her name, she declared, “I am the mother of multitudes. Thank God!”
Praise is an outgrowth of faith; you could call it a faith food. If you can’t praise, you aren’t in faith; you’re in doubt.
Practical Application
Don’t draw back from God’s promises to you! You may not see them yet, but they are coming to pass. Choose faith, not fear! Get a Word from God and give Him praise.
