Every Knee Shall Bow
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. (Philippians 2:10)
As believers, we are lights in a dark world. Those of us who have accepted Jesus often stand out as exceptions rather than the rule as multitudes bow their hearts and their lives to something or someone other than the Lord Jesus Christ. However, one day, that will change. A day is coming when every knee will bow at the name of Jesus.
The word name is onoma in Greek. It means authority and character. Jesus acquired His authority through His obedience to the Father. His authority was sealed when He defeated the devil and threw off principalities and powers and made a show of them – or embarrassed them openly!
As believers and followers of Jesus, we bow our knees to Him alone. Don’t bow your knee to what other people think of you. They may try to ridicule you for living by God’s Word, but remember that one day every knee will bow and acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus!
Don’t cower in fear that shows reverence for what the devil tells you or what he does on the earth. The devil is a defeated foe. Why would you listen to him? When he says, “You’re going to die,” your response should be, "Oh no, I'm not! The Bible says I will live and not die and declare the works of the Lord (Psalm 118:17). I bow my knee to God alone. Devil, you are under my feet!”
Practical Application – The devil is a defeated foe. Our job is to enforce Jesus's victory over him by resisting fear, rebuking Satan's words, and refuting the devil's claims. Jesus is Lord. We bow before Him alone. One day every knee in heaven, earth, and hell will bow to Jesus. In the meantime, we stand as lights in the darkness, declaring that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
