Don’t Deny Who You Are
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John1:12-13)
Have you received Jesus? If so, then you have been given the power to be a son (or child) of God. As His child, you have authority in this life.
When Jesus bluntly told the religious leaders that He was the Son of God, they did not respond positively. They were so angry at His claim that they began to look for a way to kill Him.
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath but also said that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. (John 5:17-19)
Non-Christian religions acknowledge that Jesus was a prophet or a teacher, but they deny that He was the Son of God. Jesus' being the Son of God and obedience to the Father are vital because it made way for us to become sons of God too. Don't deny who you are. You are a son of God. We don't say it with pride in ourselves, but with gratitude for what Jesus did for us. We didn't become God's children through our efforts. I didn't die on the cross, nor was I raised from the dead for myself or you. Jesus did, and because He did, everyone who believes in Him is born of the Spirit. We became sons and daughters of God with His authority on the earth. That’s why John wrote as he did in John 1:12-13. We have power as sons of God!
Practical Application – Don't deny who you are. If you have received Jesus, you are more than meets the eye. You are born of the Spirit, and you have power on this earth!
