Do you Know Who You Are?
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
Do you know who you are? If you do, then no matter what problem, challenge, or threat comes against you, you will not fear because you have overcome them all.
Overcome is the word nikao in Greek. It means to conquer, be victorious, or to prevail in the face of obstacles. John used the perfect tense in the Greek, which gives the idea of a past completed victory and a present and permanent victory. When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, He defeated the devil once and for all. Now, as a child of God, that victory is yours!
Paul used a form of nikao – hupernikao- when he wrote, “Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37). Romans 8:35-36 lists some of the things that we have overcome through Christ. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
Tribulation? You're more than a conqueror. Distress? Oh, you've overcome that! Persecution? Famine? Nakedness? Peril? Sword? Nothing is greater than the power of the anointing inside of you. John said: “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” The same Holy Spirit that was upon Jesus as He walked the earth, healed the sick, and raised the dead, dwells inside each believer in Jesus. He is greater than anything the devil can bring against you.
Practical Application – Remember who you are! You are a temple of the Holy Spirit – the same Holy Spirit that anointed Jesus to do what He did in His earthly ministry, and He is greater than any other force in the world.
