Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. (Romans 16:17-19)
The enemy knows that a house divided against itself cannot stand. So, one of the first things the enemy tries to do is to create as many divisions as possible, even among believers. The enemy divides us by sex, race and many other issues.
Paul was writing about church members whom the enemy used to create offenses and separations that split a local church. What was Paul’s advice to the faithful? Avoid them.
Paul explained that these people would try to deceive the hearts of the simple.
The enemy tries to deceive believers in the church into viewing things as offensive. Their offense incites them to split from the camp or organization to which God has called them. Satan will do anything he can and use anyone willing to create division.
When someone begins to talk to you about why they are offended at your pastor, minister, or church, you need to realize there is a sinister plot going on. Tell them to take it directly to leadership or tell them to pray about it. Don’t allow the devilish divisions of offense to influence you.
Practical Application – Don't allow an offense to steal the benefits of being a part of a church body. When someone begins to talk to you about something that offended them, stop them right away, and pray with them.
