Determine Your Delight
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. (Psalm 40:8)
What you invest your time in will also involve your heart. What your heart is invested in, you will delight in doing. You decide what you become passionate about. If you want to be enthusiastic about the things of God, you need to have a heart to follow God and a heart for His people.
When we delight to do God’s will, it’s no longer a task or a chore to follow His commands; it is a pleasure. We know that our obedience will make the King happy, and our greatest desire is for Him to be delighted in us.
Going to church isn’t a task for us to check off a spiritual requirement list. Instead, it is a benefit. We should be delighted to participate in the church - what God created for us to have relationships that help build up our faith.
What you allow to fill your heart will guide your life. What delights you will determine your direction.
Determine to delight in being a part of a local church body. There is no such thing as a perfect church in the same way that there is no such thing as an ideal family. But there is a church in which you are called to make a difference. There is a church where God wants you to encourage and uplift other Christians. Delight in being a member and find the joy in supporting the place where God has planted you.
Practical Application – The more you acquire a taste for something, the more you begin to crave it. That’s why Scripture says to taste and see that the Lord is good. Decide to delight in what God has told you to do. Delight in reading your Word, delight in serving in your church, and delight in spending time in prayer. You determine what delights you.
