Being in Order When the World is in Disorder
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. (Colossians 2:4-5)
Paul understood that this world is full of people speaking words that sound like truth, but they are actually full of lies and hypocrisy. Those spreading the un-truths will be well spoken of, and the words that they say will be things that others desire to hear.
Following lies creates disorder in God’s systems and plans. It doesn't matter what the media says, what your girlfriend says, or what your friend says. What is important is what the Holy Ghost is saying. We must learn to discern truth from lies.
Paul knew one of his responsibilities was to teach the church to listen to the right voices. The results of listening to God would be order and steadfastness of their faith.
Order is sometimes a word that churches don’t like to use. Some church-folk says that you have “edged God out” when you do things in order. When I first started our church, I was accused of running the church “like a business.” But what people didn’t understand is that God is a God of order and He wants us to be good stewards of what He has given by keeping things in order.
Our body is ordered and organized, our universe is in order, and everything created has an order to it. Order is imperative if living creatures are going to survive.
Paul saw the order in the Colossian church because it listened to the Holy Ghost, and he commended them. We should be the same way.
Practical Application – What is disorderly in your life? Are there certain things you don’t plan or prepare? Learn to hear from God and make preparation to order your life.
