A Much Better Covenant

For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:) By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. (Hebrews 7:19-22)

Jesus is the High Priest of a much better covenant than any covenant of the Old Testament. I think it’s just dumb when Christians run back to the Old Testament and Old Covenant to fight over things like “Who are the real Jews?” What does it matter? It doesn’t matter if the real Jews were purple and polka-dot because the bottom line is that surgically and anatomically, there is no difference between races from one human to the next. For us to get bent out of shape on melanin is just Satan’s attempt to create strife and division.

The law, Paul wrote in Hebrews 7, made nothing perfect. When people try to pull things out of the Old Testament to create arguments, they aren’t helping the church or establishing sound doctrine. They are merely creating controversy and division.

Where the law didn’t make anything perfect, Jesus did! We need to be looking to Jesus, who has given us a much better covenant than anyone in the Old Testament ever had. It's a covenant that is no longer based on our abilities or holiness. Instead, it is based on His perfection and holiness.

Thank you, Jesus, for your promises. Thank you, Jesus, for your perfection and for the new covenant you have given us!

Practical Application – Don’t get caught up in living under the Old Covenant. Our Covenant in Jesus’s blood is much better!

Luke 22:20; Jeremiah 31:31
